On 20 May 2008, Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yong-Boon Yeo came to the Chinese Embassy to offer his condolence for the Sichuan earthquake victims.
Minister Yeo signed on the condolence book, "With deepest condolence to the government and people of China in the terrible earthquake at Sichuan which killed so many people and left so many more injured and homeless." During his brief meeting with Ambassador Zhang Xiaokang, Minister Yeo extended again his condolence for the earthquake victims. In the door-step interview he gave after the meeting, Minister Yeo said, the Singapore people have, in many ways, shown their sorrow and grief over the devastating earthquake in Sichuan. Singapore has sent its rescue personnel and relief materials to the quake-stricken areas in China. The government and people of Singapore will stand side by side with the Chinese government and people against the disaster.
Ambassador Zhang expressed her thanks to Minister Yeo for his condolence and gratitude toward Singapore government and people for their concern, sympathy and help with respect to the Sichuan earthquake.
