Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam of Singapore

On Aug. 28, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam of Singapore, who came to China for the Special China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese leaders held meaningful meetings with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who recently visited China on how to push China-Singapore relations to maintain sound and stable development in the new situation. It has injected fresh impetus into bilateral relations. Both sides should work together to upgrade the China-Singapore relations.

Shanmugam expressed that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Chinese leaders identified in their meetings the new areas for the development of bilateral relations, which is very helpful. The Singaporean side hopes to work with China to implement the consensus reached during the visit to further promote cooperation.

Wang Yi noted that the Special China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting is aimed to summarize the achievements of the 10-year cooperation between the two sides and to plan for the future development. Hope the Singaporean side will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations.

Shanmugam said that Foreign Ministers of the 10 ASEAN countries and China gather together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN-China strategic partnership and to discuss the future cooperation. It will play a positive role in boosting the ASEAN-China relations.
